Last time I talked to you about the benefits of having an inner calm, a strong centre –
I also know that in the midst of a health crisis, that’s hard to find. Sometimes you need extra help.
Medical Coaching gave me the support I needed to help me move from crippling fear to calm. It gave me a safe space and help me make practical plans to take back control.
For some people Medical Coaching will be hand holding, sitting with your emotions and having someone who simply listens.
For others it is motivation. It’s empowering.
This type of coaching is personal and responsive by its very nature but now it is being heralded by health professionals as, ‘the missing link in transforming health and care services and outcomes’
Medical coaching is about changing the thoughts and the behaviours of patients and giving them greater ownership of their own health and care – I know first-hand that having that kind of control over your health is vital at a time of crisis.
One of the jobs of a Medical or Health coach is to facilitate conversations with your doctors about your treatment and care – because they are scary and they are emotionally tough for you and your family.
The Royal College of Physicians have said;
“Informed and empowered patients have the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their own health… and experience fewer adverse events”
In short, if you are involved and have a say in your care you are more likely to feel better and when your mind set changes, it can’t fail to have a positive effect on your whole immune system.
One study by the University of York stated categorically it was their conclusion that,
‘Health coaching improves the management of chronic diseases.’
They went on to explain that there was ‘significant improvement…across most health status measures, including pain, disability, fatigue, depression, health distress, and self-rated health’
I know that Medical Coaching works.
It worked for me and it works for the people I work with.
It changes outcomes, it gives you back power and control and it can help move you to the calm and centred place which means you can function whilst dealing with a chronic illness.
That’s why I am a Medical Coach and that’s what I want for you.
